The Grated accepts submissions on a rolling basis. We publish nonfiction stories, and we love hearing tales of hardship, overcoming obstacles, and from underrepresented voices. We like stories that connect, inspire, and help share a common struggle of the human experience. No topic is off limits, but try and stick to one specific moment or incident to focus your piece on. We like it raw and most of all true.
We accept short stories (1,000-2,500 words), flash nonfiction (200-1,000 words), and poetry of all forms (but no more than 60 lines).
Please submit your work as a .doc or .docx file. We accept up to 5 submissions at a time. We accept simultaneous submissions, but please inform us if your work has been published elsewhere.
All of our stories remain online indefinitely, and (hopefully!) one day will be printed in a collection.
We feature a story monthly as a “Story of the Month” which we feature on our homepage for the length of that month.
Please send all submissions as a .docx or .doc attachment, as well as a short bio in an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
*Please note we are small, so submissions may take up to 8 weeks to be reviewed. Please feel free to check in after that time if you haven’t heard back!
